Spectacular new results from the SPIRE Fourier Transform Spectrometer on the Herschel Space Observatory have just been released by the European Space Agency (ESA).

A detailed picture of the seeds of structures in the universe has been unveiled by an international team co-led by a Cardiff University scientist.

Researchers have managed to get Gold nanoparticles to associate into highly-ordered structures when coated with ligands formed from mesogens, the rigid part of a liquid-crystal molecule.

MikeFest - Bridging Cultures

A workshop in honour of Professor Mike Edmunds: "... as well as being a distinguished researcher in astronomy (Mike was invited to give the George Darwin Lecture "The Elementary Universe" to the Royal Astronomical Society), he is also well known for his interest in archeological astronomy. In recent years, Mike was academic lead in the team which analysed the astonishing Antikythera Mechanism. This led to a number of press releases and phenomenal media interest ..."
