Making ordered gold strings with coated nanoparticles

Researchers have managed to get Gold nanoparticles to associate into highly-ordered structures when coated with ligands formed from mesogens, the rigid part of a liquid-crystal molecule.
Planck First Light Survey

MikeFest - Bridging Cultures
A workshop in honour of Professor Mike Edmunds: "... as well as being a distinguished researcher in astronomy (Mike was invited to give the George Darwin Lecture "The Elementary Universe" to the Royal Astronomical Society), he is also well known for his interest in archeological astronomy.
