Astronomy Seminar

Post-starburst galaxies: more than an interesting curiosity

Speaker: Dr. Vivienne Wild (University of St. Andrews)
Date: Wednesday 9 May 2018
Time: 14:00
Venue: Queens Buildings N/3.28

Galaxies which have recently experienced a starburst that has subsequently shut down are often linked to “transition” galaxies i.e transiting between the blue and red sequence. They are therefore of interest to anyone wishing to build a complete picture of the origins of galaxy bimodality. I will review recent evidence for and against their global importance in the local and high redshift Universe.
