Astro & GW Colloquium

The search for Earth 2.0

Speaker: Dr David Brown (University of Warwick)
Date: Wednesday 27 March 2019
Time: 14:00
Venue: Queens Buildings N/4.07

Since the launch of Kepler the hunt has been on for a second Earth. Detecting such an exo-earth is an incredibly difficult task, and requires a good understanding of potential host stars and their activity. In this talk I will discuss the difficulties we face in finding Earth 2.0, and review the progress made towards its detection, in the context of the properties of exoplanets in general. I’ll also present some of the latest results from NASA’s TESS mission, and look forward to ESA’s PLATO satellite, which is due to launch in 2026.
