Approaches to 'measuring' learning in Physics; going beyond exam scores

The talk will consider, using examples, how practitioners might 'measure' learning in Physics. It will discuss how to use examination scores in a more nuanced way to answer more challenging questions about learning and cover things like using 'concept inventory' exams, using integrative questions linked to core (or threshold) concepts as a way of measuring learning and how to use concept mapping as part of a mixed methods approach to measuring learning in Physics. I will attempt to discuss how one might gain an indication of learning or understanding of Physics rather than simply measure a student's ability to recall factual information in response to an exam question.
