Full of holes: photonic crystal fibre for quantum technologies

Photonic crystal fibre, in which light is guided by a microstructure of air holes in a glass matrix, possesses useful properties for quantum optics. These include control of fibre dispersion, tight modal confinement, long interaction lengths with atomic vapours, and low-loss integration with conventional fibre components. This talk will discuss how some of these capabilities have been harnessed at the University of Bath for applications in quantum technologies, focusing on enhancing heralded single-photon sources and creating interfaces for linking trapped-ion qubits into large-scale quantum networks.
