VCSEL arrays for commercial wafer characterisation

Speaker: Jack Baker (PMS)
Date: Friday 4 December 2020
Time: 15:00
Venue: Zoom

Vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) are attractive optoelectronic devices with single longitudinal mode operation, circular beam shape, low threshold current and array capability. As the market for VCSELs expands it becomes paramount that yields in the growth of the epitaxial material are maximized. As such, precise control of the reactor conditions is necessary and characterisation techniques must be optimized for rapid and valuable feedback. This talk will give an overview of the commercial manufacturing process of VCSELs and report on the design and characterisation of stripped-back quick fabrication (QF) devices that can be produced after a calibration growth run to assess material quality and uniformity.
