Superconducting diamond resonators for high-field EPR measurements

With boron doping beyond a concentration of 10^21 cm^(-3), diamond becomes a low-temperature superconductor with a high type-II upper critical field. This field-resilience of boron-doped diamond can be exploited in superconducting circuits requiring the presence of a magnetic field. An example of such an application is that of the coplanar resonator electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectrometer. These resonators possess a simple geometry and are easily fabricated from boron-doped diamond photolithographically. The study of superconducting diamond resonators through finite element modelling and low temperature microwave transmission spectroscopy enables us to develop these devices.
