Astro Seminar

Atmospheric Characterisation of Exoplanets in the JWST era.

Speaker: Nikku Madhusudhan (University of Cambridge)
Date: Wednesday 10 May 2023
Time: 14:00
Venue: N3.28/Zoom

The discoveries of thousands of exoplanets have revealed great diversity in their orbital parameters, bulk properties and stellar hosts. Exoplanets known today range from extremely irradiated super Jupiters to temperate rocky planets, including several in the habitable zones of their host stars. Recent advances in exoplanet spectroscopy are leading to unprecedented insights into their atmospheric properties. I will present some recent developments in atmospheric characterisation of exoplanets and their implications for understanding atmospheric processes, formation mechanisms, and habitability across a wide range of planetary bulk properties. I will discuss the emerging landscape of exoplanetary remote sensing in the JWST era.
