Silicon photonics is transforming the current technologies, moving from their mature technological platforms towards long-term applications that create more commercial opportunities and can address global issues. Although the technology development started 30 years ago, the lack of silicon light has been a challenge until now. I have undertaken years of research to use organic molecular materials to produce light sources that can be directly integrated into silicon photonics, worked between academia and industry, and studied the material systems from the perspectives of physics properties, fabrication techniques and integrability. This talk is to introduce the research direction from studying photon-physics of the materials to developing organic-silicon hybrid amplifiers/lasers and what those molecules can do to promote quantum photonics.
