Inverse Design of Integrated Photonic Devices

Speaker: Michael Murray (N Abadia)
Date: Friday 18 February 2022
Time: 15:00
Venue: Zoom

In order to meet growing demands for computing power and information transmission, it is necessary to develop new, faster, and more efficient technologies. One such technology is integrated photonics, whose prevalence could be drastically introduced by the designing of small, high-performance devices to integrate into photonic circuits. To this end, AI can be used via the process of inverse design to rapidly design devices. In this talk, we will provide an introduction to the process of inverse design and discuss how it can be applied to the development of integrated photonic devices in particular. We will cover the uses of inverse design in the field of integrated photonics to date, as well as discuss the challenges yet to be overcome.
